This Weekend - Feb 5-7: Scrag Mountain Early Music!

A concert of all early music from Mediaeval to Baroque and we truly hope you will join us.  This program will feature two sopranos:  Mary and our dear friend Jessica Peatrus from Boston.  We're also delighted to welcome back to Scrag baroque violinist Julie Leven and Vermont harpsichordist Lynnette Combs.  I will be playing viola da gamba and double bass.

The program will include the ecstatic Ave Generosa by the eleventh century mystic, philosopher, herbalist, abbess, composer and poet Hildegard von Bingen for two sopranos unaccompanied as well as the intoxicating harmonies of Claudio Monteverdi's music for two sopranos and basso continuo.  Soprano Jess Petrus will be featured on "Le mort de Didon" (The Death of Dido) by French composer Baroque composer Michel Pignolet de Montéclair.  The instrumentalists get to shine on a "dancy" trio sonata by Danish/German baroque composer Dieterich Buxtehude.

"Come as you are.  Pay what you can."  We'll pass a basket at intermission.
